Here are our 6 top tips to make sure your website is visible on search engines like Google!
Search engines are the first place people turn to when they’re looking for a job. Which is why SEO (search engine optimisation) is the best way to get more candidates on your recruitment website and applying to your jobs. Here are our 6 top tips for improving your SEO...
1. Plan your keywords
Take time to plan your keywords, choose words or phrases that your audiences (candidates and clients) will use to find you online and make sure to include these in your page title, descriptions and website content.
Although adding keywords will optimise your content for SEO and will improve visibility, its important not to overdo it. If the phrase or sentence doesn't read well with the keywords included, remove them. Don't sacrifice the readability of your content for a couple of extra keywords!
There are many online tools that can help you pick the most effective keywords for SEO, you can find our tool recommendations in our SEO for beginners eBook.
2. Don’t forget to localise
When searching for a product or service online, search engines will look for keywords
related to the searchers location and show the most relevant results. Adding locations within your keywords is a quick and easy way to start appearing in more targeted search results.
We recommend adding location not just within your web page SEO tabs, but also when posting your adverts from Firefish, as Google for Jobs will pick this location up!
3. Make sure to add your page title and descriptions
Along with updating your keywords, make sure you are also updating SEO for your page title and descriptions for every page on your website.
Page Title
Your page title should be an accurate and concise description of the page's content. By having a clear title, the searcher will know exactly what to expect when they click onto the page. It is important to consider page titles for search engines too, as the search engines use your page title to determine the relevancy of the web page as a result in a search.
Page Description
A compelling page description has the power to increase your website traffic! When searchers see this description in the search results, they are more likely to click through if the description draws them in.
4. Include links back to your website
Without getting too technical, Google crawls websites and by following links it can detect which pages, posts and content on your site are a similar subject matter. From there, Google will determine the value of your links and this improves your SEO and search engine ranking.
This is a great way to improve your SEO, but make sure the pages you are linking are relevant and have a direct correlation. For example, if you have a web page for your candidate offering, linking your jobs page is a relevant link and is a natural journey for the candidate to take.
5. Repurpose your content
Quality content is so important for SEO. Alongside the quality of your content, Google loves fresh content! Regularly updating your content can help you climb up the search results page.
Of course giving your content pages the occasional revamp is a good idea, but you also might want to consider starting a news page or recruitment blog, this way you are adding relevant content to your website every couple of weeks.
6. List your business on Google My Business
Google My Business is a business listing page where you can engage with your audiences for free! By listing your services on Google, searchers can find you and connect by calling, messaging or leaving reviews.
