Top Tips for Sending Job Alerts & Mailshots

Our Best Practise advice on sending adverts out to your candidates

When advertising a new role, it's vital to make sure your adverts are reaching relevant candidates. Mailshots and Job Alerts in Firefish allow you to easily do this.

However it's important to make sure that your adverts are still enticing to your candidate base so they don't just receive your adverts, but get excited, engage with the advert and want to apply!

Like any email communications sent to your candidates, your job alerts and mailshots should be as 'on brand' as possible.

Firefish allows you to customise the job alerts and mailshots, meaning you can really make these your own! These messages should be fully on brand, adding images such as your logo and your brands fonts and colourings.

You should also think of the tone of voice you are using - does your brand have a particular style of communication for the market you work within, and does this align with other communication and branding you have?

For example, at Firefish, we always use our Firefish Red colour for any call to actions within the template, and try to add in some fish puns which we use both internally and in our external brand communication.

What info should I send?

Firefish allows you to send lots of information as part of your job alerts and mailshots, however there are some standard ones we would always recommend including giving the candidates a quick snapshot of the advert!

We'd recommend including the following as standard on both:

  • Title

  • Job Type

  • Pay Details

  • Location

  • Advert Text - This is the blurb

However to give the candidate some more, you may wish to include:

  • Advert Image

  • Duration (If contract roles)

Who should I send my mailshot to?

Mailshots can be sent to individual candidates in the system or groups of candidates.

We would recommend sending these out to saved searches and talent pools created in the system - allowing you to send these to the most relevant candidates.

We'd recommend setting up saved searches & talent pools based on the positions and locations you recruit in most - meaning when you bring on a new role you have a ready-made list of candidates to get in touch with right away!

Your candidates will need to be opted in to email marketing to receive these - if you do find your candidates haven't opted in, we can run a bespoke script to complete this for you.
